About This Opportunity
The Barcelona International Youth Science Challenge (BIYSC) is an intensive two-week international residential science program held annually in Barcelona, Spain. It aims to inspire and cultivate scientific talent among young people worldwide, encouraging academic and professional careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
This program is designed for high school students aged 15 to 18 with a strong academic record and a profound interest in scientific research. Participants gain hands-on experience working on real research projects with professional scientists, developing critical scientific, teamwork, and communication skills.

How to apply
- 1The application process involves several steps. First, a parent or legal guardian must complete and submit an Authorization Form. Following this, the student will receive a link to the Application Form, which requires details such as reasons for project choices (via video), a personal statement, a motivation letter, and personal experience in science. A recommendation from a science, mathematics, or technology teacher, along with academic records, is also required. Preselected candidates will be invited for an online interview.

Fees & financial support
Fee details
The participation fee for BIYSC is 3,400 EUR per participant. This fee covers accommodation, meals, research materials, local transportation, social and scientific activities, cultural visits, and insurance. It does not cover international travel to/from Barcelona or early/late departure expenses. Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera offers fee reductions for selected local students facing financial difficulties. International students are encouraged to seek external scholarships.
Financial support
Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera offers fee reductions of up to 60% for selected BIYSC students who reside and study in Catalonia and face financial difficulties. International students are encouraged to explore external scholarship opportunities from their home countries or other organizations, as direct financial aid from BIYSC is primarily for local residents.
Refund policy
If a BIYSC selected student chooses to withdraw from the program voluntarily, Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera will not refund any of the payments already made. For other situations, participants should consult the official BIYSC Cancellation policies.
