About This Opportunity
The Green Olympiad, launched by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 1999, is India's leading annual examination focused on environmental issues for school students. It is designed to test knowledge and simultaneously educate and sensitize participants on critical environmental and sustainable development topics. This Olympiad aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7, which emphasizes education for sustainable development and global citizenship.
This competition is open to students from classes 4 to 12, enrolled in schools affiliated with recognized educational boards or trusts in India and abroad. The examination is structured into four levels to ensure age-appropriate content and assessment, making it inclusive and accessible to a wide range of students. While school-based registration is primary, individual registrations are also accepted for students from non-participating schools.
Participants gain deepened environmental knowledge, develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and enhance green skills essential for the future. Winners receive cash prizes, mementos, and exclusive discounts on TERI products, while all participants receive certificates. The Olympiad aims to foster a generation of environmentally conscious and globally responsible young leaders.
The examination covers a wide range of topics including water, waste, energy, air, biodiversity, climate change, global warming, sustainable development, culture, green skills, and current environmental affairs, including Mission LiFE. It is a paper-based, multiple-choice question exam with no negative marking, designed to assess knowledge, application, and analytical skills.
