About This Opportunity
The Heartfulness Essay Contest is an annual event, now in its thirty-third successive year, encouraging Indian youth to explore personal growth, values, and social awareness through essay writing. Organized by Shri Ram Chandra Mission in partnership with UNESCO MGIEP and The Commonwealth, it offers a unique platform for expressing inner thoughts and promoting holistic development.
This competition is open to Indian youth aged 14-25, including school and college students or young professionals. Participants select a topic, compose an original essay in one of twelve languages, and can earn trophies, mementos, and various certificates, while also enhancing critical thinking and writing skills.

Academic requirement
Open to school students (14-18 years) and college/university students or young professionals (19-25 years) from India. No restrictions based on academic background or institution.
Prerequisites
- Essay must be the original work of the participant.
- Plagiarism will result in disqualification.
- Adherence to specified word limits for each category is mandatory.
- Participant's name, father's name, age, and institution name must be included on every page.
Indian youth aged 14-25, including school students (14-18 years) and college students/young professionals (19-25 years), are eligible. The contest is open nationwide with no academic or institutional restrictions. Participation is free, and all submitted essays must be original work.

Rounds & format
The competition primarily involves a single round of essay submission. For top awards, some participants may be invited for a final interview by the jury via telephone or video call.
How entries are judged
Essays are evaluated based on Theme introduction/interpretation (10%), Structure and flow (10%), Language (10%), Originality (20%), Relevance of ideas to the theme (40%), Research/attention to details (5%), and Conclusion (5%). Plagiarized essays will be rejected.
Selection process
Selection is based on the jury's comprehensive evaluation of the submitted essay. Top performers may be invited for an interview as a final selection round for the highest awards.
How to apply
- 1Participants must register on the official Heartfulness website. After registration, they can upload their scanned essay (PDF, max 3MB) and a scanned age proof document (PDF, max 1MB) through the provided submission link. Institutional participants may submit through their school coordinator, while direct participants use the direct submission portal. An enrolment number is provided upon successful submission.
