Academic requirement
Students currently enrolled in secondary or higher secondary school (Grades 9-12) with a strong interest in Earth Sciences. Applicants must not be university or college students.
Prerequisites
- Strong foundational knowledge in science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) as they relate to Earth Systems.
- A genuine interest in Earth Sciences and environmental issues.
Additional requirements
- Must be an Indian national.
- Must not have won a medal in a previous IESO.
- Must not have won a medal in a previous International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO).
- Born on or after July 1st of the Olympiad year (e.g., July 1, 2006, for IESO 2025).
This competition is open to Indian nationals studying in Grades 9 to 12. Participants must be 18 years of age or younger as of July 1st of the Olympiad year and should not be enrolled in any university or college program. Students who have previously won a medal at the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) are not eligible to participate again.

Selection process
Top scorers from the National Level Entrance Test proceed to the Training Camp. The top-performing students from the INESO exam (held at the end of the Training Camp) are selected to represent India at the IESO (typically 4 students).
