The competition is typically conducted in two phases. Phase 1 is the initial qualifier exam. Students who meet the qualifying criteria (e.g., top state rankers, class toppers with a minimum score) are eligible to appear for Phase 2.

How entries are judged

Performance is judged based on the score obtained in the multiple-choice question exam. Ranks are determined based on the marks scored. In case of a tie, time taken to complete the exam may be considered.

Selection process

Students qualify for Phase 2 based on their performance in Phase 1. Criteria include achieving a top state rank (1 to 10) or being a class topper with a minimum of 50% marks, provided at least 5 students participated from that class.
