Rounds & format
The competition consists of three preliminary rounds where students compete individually in a buzzer-based format. Each preliminary round has 30 tossup questions. The top-scoring individuals from the preliminary rounds advance to the final round, which uses the same buzzer-based format.
How entries are judged
Participants are judged on the accuracy and speed of their answers. Points are awarded for correct responses, and penalties may apply for incorrect or premature answers. Bonus points are awarded for quickly reaching a certain number of correct answers in preliminary rounds.
Selection process
The top half of players from the preliminary rounds in each event qualify for the Asian Championships. Advancement to the final round within the championship is based on cumulative scores from preliminary rounds.

Fee details
The registration fee for the International History Bee Asian Championship is $140 USD per student. Regional qualifying events may have different fee structures. Additional fees may apply for late registration or specific payment methods. Payments can be made via Flywire or wire transfer, with a $30 USD fee for wire transfers. A 5% surcharge applies for in-person payments in local currency at regional events, and a 10% surcharge for other currencies at the Asian Championships.
Refund policy
Cancellations made before the registration deadline may be eligible for a refund minus a $50 fee. Cancellations between the deadline and a week before the event may incur a 50% fee. No refunds are typically given for cancellations made closer to the event date.
