About This Opportunity
The poetry category of the India Writing Project (IWP) is a vibrant opportunity for aspiring and experienced writers alike to express themselves through verse. Open to all citizens of India and the global Indian community, it encourages poets to craft original works on themes of their choosing—there’s no restriction in topic, genre, or style. Each submission must be one poem per entry, previously unpublished and solely authored by the participant, and must adhere to a word count between 50 and 1,500 words. Entrants retain full copyright to their poems.
The competition follows a fully online format: after registration and payment, participants submit their poems online, after which they receive a certificate of appreciation and a detailed grade card for each entry. The grand prize pool for the competition is ₹1,50,000 overall, with specific category awards such as the “Best Poetry” prize valued at ₹5,000. Winners also gain publication on IWP’s website and exposure through national-media features and social-media platforms.
The judges assess entries on creativity, expression, originality and adherence to the theme. With no age limit, and the possibility of submitting multiple different entries (one poem per entry) under the same registration, the IWP poetry contest is designed to nurture literary talent, grow confidence, and spotlight remarkable voices in contemporary Indian writing.
