About This Opportunity

The International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC) is an annual online mathematics competition established in 2018, designed to engage and challenge high school and university students worldwide. It provides a unique platform for young minds to showcase their mathematical prowess, creativity, and logical reasoning skills by solving a diverse range of challenging problems.

The competition aims to foster a love for mathematics and encourage students to explore concepts beyond their standard curriculum. Participants gain global exposure, enhance their analytical thinking, and can significantly boost their profiles for university admissions and competitive exams. IYMC emphasizes problem-solving and creative thinking, with problems often requiring innovative approaches rather than rote memorization.

The competition is structured into three progressively difficult rounds: Qualification, Pre-Final, and Final. All participants receive official certificates, and top performers are awarded cash prizes, special honors, and the opportunity to join an international network of like-minded students and become IYMC ambassadors.

The competition is accessible to students globally, promoting international collaboration and a deeper engagement with mathematics.

Rounds & format

The competition consists of three rounds: Qualification Round, Pre-Final Round, and Final Round. The Qualification Round involves solving five math problems. To qualify for the Pre-Final Round, participants need to solve at least three problems correctly (under 18) or four problems (over 18). The Pre-Final Round requires solving 8-10 problems, including basic, advanced, and special creativity problems, often involving real-world research papers. The Final Round is a 20-minute online exam supervised by a teacher or via self-recording, with 20 multiple-choice questions.

How entries are judged

Solutions are evaluated based on correctness, clarity of steps, creativity, and logical reasoning. For the Pre-Final Round, understanding and application of scientific texts are also assessed.

Selection process

Qualification for subsequent rounds is based on the number of problems solved correctly in the preceding round, with different thresholds for participants under and over 18 years of age.

How to apply

  1. 1Submit solutions for the Qualification Round online via the official submission form. Ensure final solutions are clearly marked (e.g., underlining, red color, box).
