About This Opportunity

The Pre-Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities is a central sector scheme by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Government of India. It offers crucial financial assistance to Indian students with benchmark disabilities who are enrolled in Class 9 and 10. The primary goal is to encourage these students to continue their education, minimize drop-out rates, and help them achieve a dignified place in society.

This scholarship is open to Indian nationals with a minimum of 40% disability, as defined by the 'Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016', and who possess a valid disability certificate. Applicants must be regular, full-time students attending a government school or a school recognized by the government or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education. The annual family income from all sources should not exceed ₹2,50,000.

Beneficiaries receive a maintenance allowance, a book grant, and a disability allowance. This financial support aims to cover various educational expenses, including assistance for purchasing books and hostel accommodation. The scholarship helps students overcome financial barriers, enabling them to access quality education and fostering their socio-economic empowerment.

Applications are submitted online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The scheme ensures direct benefit transfer of scholarship funds to the students' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, promoting a transparent and efficient disbursement system.
