Rounds & format

The first round is regional, and the next is global. Each team debates three times. For the first two debates, teams have 15 minutes of preparation with device access. For the third debate, no devices are allowed during preparation. Each speaker speaks for up to 4 minutes, with 60 seconds for preparation between speakers. After speeches, teams provide 90 seconds of constructive feedback.

How entries are judged

Debates are judged on the quality of arguments, logical flow, use of evidence, rhetoric, organization, and speaker presence. Feedback is provided on strengths and areas for improvement.

Selection process

Teams qualify for Global Rounds by exceeding a point threshold at a Regional Round (e.g., 18,000 points) or by earning a wildcard. Qualification for the Tournament of Champions requires exceeding a point threshold at a Global Round (around 22,000 points) and having at least two members from the same team or school who qualified from that Global Round.
