UP Pre-Matric Scholarship for Class 9-10 Students

The UP Pre-Matric Scholarship for Class 9-10 Students is a state-funded financial assistance scheme administered by the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It provides annual scholarship support to students enrolled in Class 9 and Class 10 in government, government-aided, or recognised private schools located within Uttar Pradesh, with the goal of reducing dropout rates and supporting continuation of secondary education for children from economically weaker families.

Applications are submitted online through the unified portal scholarship.up.gov.in. The portal handles fresh registrations and renewals, requires institution-level verification, and routes approved cases to district welfare offices for sanction. Selected beneficiaries receive scholarship payments directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer.

The scheme covers students belonging to Scheduled Caste, General, OBC, and Minority categories, each governed by category-specific income ceilings and budget heads. Benefit components typically include a monthly maintenance allowance and a one-time ad-hoc grant during the academic year, with the consolidated annual amount varying by category and residential status as notified each year by the department.

Applicants must possess a valid Uttar Pradesh domicile, an Aadhaar number seeded with their bank account, the income certificate of the family, and the previous class marksheet at the time of application. Verification is conducted by the head of the institution, after which the application progresses through the district-level approval workflow before disbursement.
