About This Opportunity
The Verbattle Kannada Debate Championship is an annual Kannada-language debate competition organised by Verbattle Foundation, a Bengaluru-based non-profit working in democratic dialogue and public speaking. The championship promotes structured argumentation in Kannada among school and college students.
Participation is open to students from schools and colleges across Karnataka, with teams of two members competing together. Participants under sixteen years of age are permitted to have a mentor on stage during their rounds.
The competition uses Verbattle's signature three-team format. Each round features three teams whose sides on the motion are decided by chance, followed by four to five rounds that include questions from judges, mentors and the audience. Stages progress from Zonal Clamber through Skirmish, Combat and Confrontation to a Face-Off final.
Winners receive trophies and recognition, and Verbattle has historically awarded scholarships to standout participants. The Kannada championship runs alongside Verbattle's English-language debate competitions and is one of the few large-scale Kannada debate platforms in the state.
