About
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is an autonomous organization under the Government of India. It is dedicated to fostering cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries. The ICCR actively promotes cultural exchange through various programs and initiatives, serving as a key instrument of India's soft power and cultural diplomacy. The ICCR operates 38 cultural centers globally, with a strong emphasis on positioning India as a prominent hub for higher education. The organization also plays a crucial role in facilitating the worldwide celebration of the International Day of Yoga by Indian Missions and Posts abroad. Annually, the ICCR provides over 4,000 scholarships to foreign students from 190 countries, enabling them to pursue studies in India. The council also supports Indian artists performing internationally and hosts foreign artists in India, thereby enriching global cultural dialogue. Established in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India's first Education Minister, the ICCR has consistently worked to revive and strengthen India's cultural ties with the world.
