About

The Indian Schools Debating Society (ISDS) is a prominent not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering competitive debating among students across India. Established in Chennai in 2008, ISDS aims to cultivate critical thinking, effective communication, and leadership skills in young Indians. The organization operates with the support of the Ramco Group of Companies. ISDS pioneered the introduction of the 'World Schools Debating Championship' (WSDC) format to India. It provides continuous training to young debaters with the assistance of leading debaters from around the world, thereby nurturing a growing pool of skilled Indian debaters who are eager to contribute back to the community. The society conducts various workshops for students, organizes leagues and tournaments, and trains teachers to effectively judge debates and integrate debate into classroom learning. ISDS is also responsible for selecting and training the National Debating Squad, whose students consistently achieve excellence on the international stage and serve as inspiring role models. ISDS has significantly expanded its national footprint, reaching over 6,000 students across more than 55 cities annually. The organization is committed to scaling student engagement, enhancing inclusion for students who may lack access to debating opportunities, and striving for excellence within both domestic and international debating circuits.
