About
The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, established on April 4, 1978. It is primarily engaged in popularizing science and technology through a vast network of interactive science centres and museums. The council's mission is to foster a scientific temper and creative spirit among the general public, particularly students, through non-formal science education. Functioning as the largest network of science centres in the world under a single administrative body, NCSM administers 26 science centres and museums across India. These institutions, including national-level hubs in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, serve as epicenters for hands-on exhibits, workshops, and educational programs. The council's Central Research & Training Laboratory (CRTL) in Kolkata supports these activities through dedicated research and professional development. NCSM extends its reach to remote and rural areas through innovative initiatives like the Mobile Science Exhibition (MSE) buses, ensuring science becomes accessible to all. The organization is also instrumental in developing new science centres for various state governments and union territories. Furthermore, the affiliated NCSM Foundation conducts national-level Olympiads, such as the All India Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) and All India Science Olympiad (AISO), to nurture academic talent from an early age.
