About

The National Institute of Design (NID) is India's premier autonomous institution for design education, research, and professional training, established in 1961 under the Government of India. Founded with support from the Ford Foundation and the Sarabhai family, NID emerged from the landmark 1958 Eames India Report and has been instrumental in shaping design education and practice across India. NID operates under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and has been accorded the status of an Institute of National Importance under the NID Act, 2014. Its main campus is in Ahmedabad, with additional campuses in Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. Through its Continuing Education Programme (CEP), NID offers intensive workshops, short courses, and professional development programs open to students and working professionals across design disciplines. The CEP campus in Gandhinagar hosts regular summer and professional workshops in areas such as product design, graphic design, textile design, animation, and design research.
