About
Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Mahasabha is one of the world's oldest continuously running classical music organisations, founded in Jalandhar, Punjab in 1875. The institution is named after saint-musician Baba Harivallabh and was established to preserve, promote, and celebrate Hindustani classical music. The Mahasabha is best known for the annual Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan — a multi-day classical music gathering held every December in Jalandhar that has continued without interruption for over 130 years. The event attracts India's foremost classical musicians and draws hundreds of thousands of attendees. In recognition of its unparalleled contribution to Hindustani classical music, the Mahasabha has been honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award — India's highest honour in performing arts. The institution also organises competitions for youth and junior practitioners in Hindustani classical music and tabla.
