About

Goethe-Institut Max Mueller Bhavan is the Indian arm of the Goethe-Institut, the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. The institute is named after Friedrich Max Mueller, the German philologist and co-founder of modern Indian studies. The organisation operates centres in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune, with additional language partner sites in Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Kathmandu. It offers German language courses for adults and teenagers, internationally recognised Goethe-Zertifikat examinations, and teacher training in German as a foreign language. The institute also runs cultural programmes that present contemporary German art, cinema, literature and music in collaboration with Indian partners. Its libraries provide access to media and information about contemporary Germany. Under the global PASCH initiative (Schools: Partners for the Future), the institute supports German-language teaching at partner schools across India and selects students for fully-funded youth courses and scholarships in Germany.
